The Dark Omen Syndicate

At its core, the Dark Omen is a criminal syndicate that specializes in information/data brokerage. Since the initial founding of the Dark Omen, they have expanded their activities and services to include wetwork, mostly as a means to enforce their policies. Although the Dark Omen is based primarily in Menagerie, they have a vast network of liaisons and intermediaries scattered throughout Remnant.
Founding: The Dark Omen was officially founded in 50 AGW by Lucien Umbra in Kuo Kuana, Menagerie, although the Dark Omen existed prior to the official founding year under a different alias lost to time. The Dark Omen was originally going to be founded under the leadership of two figures, Lucien Umbra and Erebus Licht, before Erebus disappeared under “mysterious circumstances”. Seizing power in the absence of Erebus, Lucien had ambitions to expand the Dark Omen internationally.
Operations: Traditionally, the Dark Omen syndicate deals in information/data brokerage, charging their client fees in exchange for the information they need on a person or place. The Dark Omen obviously accepts Lien as payment, but they are open to non-monetary forms of repayment should the client be strapped for cash. Alternative, non-monetary forms of repayment could take the form of labor or favors on behalf of the Dark Omen. Labor repayment plans involve the client actively working for the Dark Omen without payment, and are active for a set period of time (usually 1-3 months for a routine operation) before the client is considered free. Labor plans are popular amongst the poor, many of whom choose to continue working with the Dark Omen for a wage once their period of servitude has expired. All payment plans, monetary or otherwise, are enforced under pain of death. The Dark Omen had traditionally outsourced wetwork for clients who refused payment, but Orpheus Umbra made reforms to the syndicate, teaching its trusted members combat and assassination techniques.
Members: Information on the number of members in the Dark Omen is sparse and unreliable. However, professionals estimate that the number of members in the Dark Omen is between 1,000 - 10,000 people worldwide. Most of the members are concentrated in Kuo Kuana and the city of Vale. Although liaisons and intermediaries to the Dark Omen can be found all over Remnant, the syndicate’s areas of operation are mostly restricted to Vale and Menagerie at the moment. Despite the secrecy of the syndicate, there are some names that have slipped through the proverbial cracks.
