Kiera let out a resounding groan. The thick, beat-someone-to-death-with-it sized textbook before her was splayed open to the 5th page she'd managed to grind through so far. Which was kind of a problem, considering she'd been here for about 30 minutes already.
It wasn't her fault, really! The littlest things just made her brain reset like clockwork - the buzz of a scroll, someone on the other side of the room letting out a cough, catching sight of an interesting book on the shelf just beyond her table... and she was back to the beginning of the page again. It'd be torture if she was the type of girl to describe anything like that.
Normally she was the sort to throw in the towel, citing the fact she just wasn't in the right headspace for today, but she had been doing that every day. For the past few weeks. She'd be in danger if she didn't buckle up and actually do the whole school thing. Not everything could be field missions and waving her weapon around like a madman--
And she was back to the start of the page again. Kiera planted her face on the table with a quiet thud, gripping the edges of her uniform's skirt so hard her knuckles turned white. She was really missing her treks around Mistral right about now, surprisingly enough; at least studying then had been a little entertaining, reading her textbooks off for those willing to listen.
Huh. Maybe she could find a willing victim here. Or maybe she'd stay like this for a little while longer. Her book wasn't such a bad pillow.
