Physical Description:
Richard stands at six feet tall. He has short black hair that is always brushed back, but fluffs up ever so slightly in rebellion. His dark blue eyes carry a determined look in them, accentuated by his sharp eyebrows. His skin is a creamy peach color that appears to be free of natural blemishes. His upper body is muscular, from years of intense training. His lower body is a bit thinner than his top half, due to less of a focus on cardio, but the muscles there are still toned and more than in shape.

Richard’s body has a scant scattering of light scars; injuries from the point of a sword, gained from his self-destructive style of training. In particular, the remnants of a nasty blow can be seen over his heart. It is a rough and gnarled line of skin that had been improperly stitched together. It covers a diagonal distance from the bottom of his ribcage to the apex of his left shoulder.
Outfit Description:
Richard’s typical attire consists of bulky, black, hi-topped sneakers, with dark blue denim jeans. He wears a dark blue v-neck shirt, under a dark grey hoodie with a wide collar, that buttons near his collarbone. He typically leaves this zipped up halfway, with the collar unbuttoned. The jacket has a layer of chainmail in its lining, serving as armor. He wears a small bag strapped to his left thigh that holds a handful of medical supplies, and a sheathe on his back, connected by a black sword strap.
Personality Description:
Richard appears to be a serious and solemn person. He grew up under the harsh pressure of the Volt name; a name that demands mastery of the blade, and temperance of personality, in order to become a worthy warrior. As such, Richard has learned to push down his emotions, his desires, and embrace a mask of stoicism to appear steadfast and dependable to others.

Beneath the mask, however, Richard is a man wracked with feelings of incompetence. His entire life, Richard has been compared to his father, a very skilled Huntsman in his own right, and Richard feels like he will never live up to the man. He often downplays his own skills and accomplishments, feeling humbled by living in the shadow of someone so great. Every now and then, his inferiority complex boils over, and Richard finds himself cursing his father and the Volt name, and withdraws back behind his mask of stoicism in order to maintain appearances.

Richard cares deeply for his friends, and once he’s made one, he stops pushing down his emotions around them. His stoicism falls away to reveal dry humor, a real and true dedication to doing what he believes is right, and concern that can border on overbearing; the truest parts of himself that he’s learned to bury. He is overprotective of them to a fault, often more than willing to put himself in the line of fire just to ensure their safety.
Backstory Highlights:
Born in the capital city of the Kingdom of Vale, Richard is a member of the Volt family, a family revered for its long line of warriors that can be traced back to a time that predates the founding of Vale. Richard grew up with a twin sister, and they were raised by Darrien Volt, a master swordsman, and the greatest Huntsman the Volt line has ever produced. His mother, Alea, is separated from his father, and lives a nomadic life as a huntress in Mistral. Richard rarely takes the opportunity to talk with her, as he feels like she abandoned him. He gets along well with both his sister and his father. He’s been to several high class events due to his name, which tends to carry weight in Vale, if only in social circles.

From almost the day he learned how to walk, Richard was trained how to use a blade. His affinity for swordsmanship was evident at a very young age, and Richard prides himself on being able to duel efficiently with any type of bladed weapon. That is, so long as it isn’t a polearm or an axe. He just tends to break things with those.

Even so, despite being skilled with a blade, he is outclassed by pretty much every other member of his family. As he learned the night his Uncle broke into the Volt Manor, in an attempt to end the Volt legacy, and left him with a grotesque scar across his chest that will forever be a permanent physical reminder of his weakness.

Becoming a Huntsman was never really a choice for Richard, and despite his pride in his martial prowess, he has no desire to attend Beacon Academy. Richard would rather settle for a quiet life, not that he'd know what to do with it. Unfortunately, it was made clear from birth that he was expected to carry on the tradition of being a Huntsman. Despite abhorring the idea of a life of combat, Richard chose his familial “duty” over his own desires, and has dedicated himself to mastering the blade. In pursuit of this future, he attended Signal Academy on the island of Patch, before applying and being accepted into Beacon Academy.

Despite his feelings about being a Huntsman, his encounter with his Uncle has left mental scars Richard has never addressed. He is obsessed with self-improvement; in following the footsteps of his Ancestors, despite the fact that he loathes violence. Being unable to live up to the unrealistic expectations he has set himself has made Richard masochistic, and self-loathing. He doesn’t get the sleep he needs, has become increasingly reclusive, allows himself to be struck without Aura to improve his pain tolerance, and trains to the point of breaking his body, all in an effort to forge himself into his own twisted ideal of the Perfect Volt.
Occupation:
Student
Education:
Home training by his father, and he also attended Signal Academy
Semblance Name:
Perfect Blow
Semblance Description:
Richard's Semblance is called “Perfect Blow," and it is the Hereditary Semblance of the Volt family. It allows him to spend a portion of his Aura to increase the severity of his melee attacks—typically by threefold. This is visually represented by a blue light glowing along the business end of whatever melee weapon he is using. (The blade of a sword, head of a hammer, fist, ect.)

Mechanically: This is just a Paladin’s Smite.

This Semblance emerged from Richard's desire to not be a warrior. With the ability to increase the amount of damage he can dish out, it enables him to try and end a fight before it has truly begun, instead of dragging the fight out.

Richard may be able to temporarily alter the intensity of his attacks, but the act of using Aura to create such a drastic change is taxing. It tires him out physically. Furthermore, channeling his Semblance through his own flesh and bone, rather than the steel of a proper weapon causes him serious physical backlash. Usually torn and bloodied skin, or even broken bones if severe enough.
Weapon Name:
Noble Obligation
Weapon Description:
Noble Obligation is a simple bastard sword. The sword itself weighs roughly three to four pounds, with a white-steel blade of a width one and three-fourths of an inch, that tapers down to one and one-fourth of an inch, while being fourty-eight inches in length. The hilt is crafted from oak wood, and wrapped in black leather, and is molded to fit two hands.
Other Gear:
Richard's grey jacket is actually lined with chainmail.
Fighting Style:
Richard is a swordsman. While he's competent with blades of any kind, his focus is on bastard swords and long swords, both of which he prefers to wield with two hands.
Strengths:
Mostly as a result of his intense training, Richard is a phenomenal duelist. His real talent lies in swordsmanship, in particular the usage of a single sword. He boasts both greater-than-average strength and physical durability. Intellectually, he scores well in classes that have a basis in history and literature. He’s also a very good cook.
Weaknesses:
Richard, while strong and durable, isn’t as fast as your average Huntsman-in-training. He also struggles intellectually with subjects that have a basis in mathematical equations. He’s a quiet fellow, and as such, isn’t exactly the most persuasive person in the world. He also lacks tact, and he isn’t great about being discreet.
Likes:
Pasta, reading a good novel, quiet atmospheres, and peace. Also cooking. Physical affection, not that he's used to receiving it.
Dislikes:
Violence in any form. Rude and disrespectful people. Swords. His family legacy. Blatant discrimination. Arthur Volt II. Stew.
