Blue
Aura Color:
Light grey
Physical Description:
Vesper is of average height and weight. She has long black hair with bangs, which she ties up into a bun at the top of her head so it's not in the way. Her eyes are a plain blue shade, but become an almost dull (or grey-ish) color when she uses her semblance.

While her skin is fair, her arms and hands are usually covered in small bruises and scrapes from either tinkering with her weapon or training outside.
Outfit Description:
Vesper wears a plain grey tank top and ripped black jeans, over that she wears a black corset for waist and back support. She also wears black knee high combat boots.

Around her waist are leather belts that hold up a pouch on her left hip where she keeps some basic first aid supplies. Strapped to her right thigh is the holster for her main weapon, while her secondary weapon's holster is attached, to the belt, on her lower back. Finally, her right arm is fully wrapped in bandages that act as a compression sleeve.
Personality Description:
Most of the time Vesper remains indifferent, rarely the type to pick sides in arguments or volunteer to answer in class. She likes staying out of the spotlight, finding it far too exhausting with all the attention, she'd rather stick to the sidelines with a small group of close friends. If one were to approach her she certainly wouldn't be rude, she'll be very polite as per her mother's teachings, but one might find she keeps "new" people at an arms length.

Getting past that first wall of indifference can take a little bit of poking and prodding, but once you get there you'll notice Vesper is full of dedication towards her friends and family. Those she considers friends will get to see the more lighthearted side of her, the side that makes jokes, gives praise and help out whenever, or however, she can. Those who know her also know she doesn't like taking shots she isn't sure will hit, both in and out of combat. You'll rarely see her take a huge risk and try something new, rather she likes to keep things the way they are, "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
Backstory Highlights:
Vesper was born as the third child of a lovely couple in Vale, Helena and Cethric Chase. Her father was a huntsman, taking on small and short missions that were easy enough to handle without being gone for too long, while her mother was a seamstress, making clothes and leatherwork for huntsmen and huntresses all over Vale. Growing up, Vesper and her brothers, Adrian and Markus, bickered as siblings do and their parents scolded them as parents do, though being the only daughter meant everyone in the family became a little extra protective of her. All in all they lived a happy and normal life, and none of them would trade it for anything else.

Ever since she was little she'd adored both her parents, all the stories of her father's missions, her mother's fairytales, but especially the story of how the two of them had met and fallen in love. Due to her adoration of her father, it came as no surprise to either of her parents when Vesper started showing an interest in fighting and wanting her father to teach her everything he knew. Seeing as Vesper's brothers had no interest in becoming hunters her father was happy that she wanted to learn how to fight like him. And thus, Vesper was given her very first rifle, granted it wasn't anything even remotely lethal and she wasn't allowed to ever use it without her father nearby, but it was something.

Of course the two of them started out small, but as soon as she was old enough they enrolled her in Signal Academy where she crafted the first version of "Blackout" and "Last Dance". It was also where she discovered her semblance. While in class she'd been frustrated that she just couldn't seem to hit the bullseye, so for fun she made a finger gun and "shot" it right before actually firing. Like magic, her next bullet seemed to curve every so slightly before hitting the target dead center. Since her father had already gotten her started as a long range fighter, like himself, it came as a relief when Vesper came home and showed off what she called "target practice cheating".

Her school life remained uneventful, she wasn't at the top of her class by any means, but she kept her grades steadily above average throughout most of it. The one thing that made her stand out was target accuracy, thanks to her semblance, she rarely if ever missed what she was aiming for. This came at the cost of her hand-to-hand combat being lacking, though not non-existent, but luckily Grimm aren't known for their uppercuts.

After Signal, it felt only natural to apply to Beacon and hope for the best, great aim alone was never going to be a guaranteed spot at the school.
Occupation:
Student
Education:
Vesper was taught the basics of firearms by her father Cethric, both how to assemble and how to use them. As soon as she was old enough she attended Signal Academy and refined her combat abilities there, along with her father's teachings on the side.
Semblance Name:
Hunters Mark
Semblance Description:
Vesper is capable of marking a small area that she can see, on creatures or objects, which “pulls” other objects towards it. By pointing a finger gun at whatever she wishes to mark, a faint bullseye the size of a tea cup appears and is active until Vesper decides to drop it (or loses focus) or until it takes significant damage, for example getting hit with a bullet. As soon as something is marked she doesn’t need to see the area, though it helps lessen the amount of focus required to maintain it.

If given enough time to focus, Vesper can manipulate the size of the mark or the size of the object that gets “pulled in” towards it, though this is not something she is proficient in.

However, Vesper is subconsciously limiting her own semblance by thinking that the mark becomes “magnetic”, when in reality it can attract most objects that Vesper focuses on. Since she discovered her semblance during target practice, Vesper simply made an assumption about it and left it at that. Not being the type to try new things, the thought that her semblance might be something else never even crossed her mind, thus bottlenecking her own semblance by limiting herself to bullets.

While a regular civilian might not even realize they've been marked (unless they physically see the mark), a trained aura user will be able to feel the mark on their person, if they have good enough control of their aura they can even remove it from themselves. Grimm on the other hand are as easy as civilians since they aren't capable of "resisting" the way aura users are.

Her standard mark doesn't significantly drain her aura, however marking several places at once with cause it to drain at a faster rate, as will making a mark stronger or larger.
Weapon Name:
Blackout and Last Dance
Weapon Description:
Blackout and Last Dance are at first glance two basic pistols. The core difference between the two is that Blackout fires regular bullets, while Last Dance refers to the fully combined sniper rifle, which fires dust charged sniper ammunition. Both have a sleek gunmetal grey color, with Last Dance's chamber having an indicator of what dust it's charged with.

Blackout is Vesper's main weapon and rests on her right hip for easy access, it's capable of firing rapid shots at both close and long range. When combined with its sister component, Blackout acts as the main barrel, stand and sight of the sniper.

The two components combine by the back of Blackout opening up, allowing the tip of the other component to attach to Blackouts barrel, while the tip of Blackout's barrel extends out of the main body. The top of Blackout then extends up and creates a long range sight, while the bottom of the barrel can fold down to create a stand. The trigger and magazine of Blackout are rendered useless while combined into Last Dance.

The other component of Last Dance rests on Vesper's lower back and cannot be fired on its own. The magazine can be swapped for a different type of dust charge, depending on what the situation calls for and once combined it uses a bolt action for reloading. When combined, the grip extends back into a recoil pad and the trigger becomes usable.
Other Gear:
Vesper always carries different types of dust ammunition for Last Dance as well as extra ammunition for Blackout, these are visible on the belts around her waist. In the pouch that said belts are attached to she carries basic first aid supplies, as well as other things one might need (pain killers, blister band aids, chapstick, extra hairties etc.).
Fighting Style:
Vesper's fighting style depends on the opponent, but can be summarized like this: The bigger the opponent, the bigger the ammunition and distance. For sparring against other students Vesper likes to keep a short distance, at least enough to stay out of melee reach, focusing mostly on dodging their attacks and using her semblance to target key areas, like knees and shoulders. Since sparring is usually help in a plain arena, Last Dance isn't a proficient weapon to use due to the lack of hiding places and high ground, as well as the slow firing rate.

For Grimm however, Vesper can keep a greater distance and use Last Dance to take out larger creatures in a single shot from a well hidden spot in a tree. If she's with other people, she takes on a more supportive role, using the dust charges in Last Dance to trap or cripple the Grimm while her companions take it out, alternatively using Blackout at a closer range to distract the creature(s) while her companions finish the job.
Strengths:
Vesper is a fiercely loyal friend, she's willing to go to the ends of the earth for the people she cares about. She's the type of friend you'd feel comfortable sharing a secret too and know that it wouldn't ever leave her lips unless you said it was alright. While she may be slow to violence in a social context, if she thinks someone might pose a threat to her friends she won't hesitate to say it out loud. Her decisiveness also means she knows her limits and won't do something that might put her friends in danger.

In combat Vesper's proficiency in ranged battle is hard to match, her semblance makes her an expert marksman and her dust charged bullets make her a reliable support for any allies she might be fighting alongside. Her experience as a sniper also comes with the perk of being a proficient climber to get to the high ground and the patience of a saint. It also means she's capable of sitting still and quiet for long periods of time to remain hidden.
Weaknesses:
While her indifference can be strength, it can also be a weakness. Vesper is prone to loosing out on people who could've become great friends if she'd just opened up a little bit more. Some people consider her to be average, or boring, and in a large crowd even forget she exists. She does know her limits, which is good for knowing what she can and can't do, but it also means that she lacks motivation to truly take a leap of faith for herself. Unless it's a matter of life and death, Vesper won't take big, or even "medium" risks, something that actively prevents her from growing both as a person but also as a huntress.

When she is willing to take big risks, it's never at the cost of someone else, only to herself, which is noble but dangerous when it comes to the Grimm. It's not that she disregards her own life, but if she can prevent her friends from getting harmed by taking a hit or two she'll happily do it.

Her skills in Melee combat are also lacking, she's very dependent on her weapons since her semblance doesn't do much on it's own, so an opponent who gets close enough will find that she's very easy to get on the defensive.
