Physical Description:
Lean with a moderate amount of muscle, Torman possesses a fighter's build, the build of one who has gained their muscle mass primarily through combat training instead of lifting weights or jogging. His height allows him to strike an imposing figure should he try, but he lacks the sheer mass required to appear intimidating from his figure alone. Despite his musculature, he's also fairly androgynous.

Torman is fair-skinned, his hair a deep, dark green, bordering on black. It's also an absolute mess of small waves only kept in control by how short he always cuts it, ending just above his ears. His eyes are a strange, somewhat dark shade of pink, not quite crossing into red but close enough to appear off-red at a distance.

Narrow eyes, a small nose, and sharp facial features give Torman a perpetual glare, one that could be described as outright contemptuous were it nor for how neutral his resting expression is, which serves to tone it down. As it is, his expression most often falls somewhere between mild annoyance and complete dismissal.

Torman's faunus trait is a proboscis-like appendage that takes the place of his tongue, vaguely resembling a mosquito's mouthpart. Unlike a normal tongue, it is black, rounder, narrower, and contains a hollow tube that he's capable of ingesting fluids through. It is also prehensile and retractable, extending to a full length of two feet and retracting to a much more normal length. It is substantially more durable than a normal tongue and contains a retractable tip that's capable of percing flesh, though Torman's body is not adapted to digest any substances that are abnormal for a human or other faunus to consume. He cannot digest blood, for example.
Outfit Description:
Torman's Huntsman attire consists of a bodysuit, trench coat, gloves, cargo pants, and combat boots, all of which have been modified in some manner to better suit his needs. The bodysuit covers everything except his head, hands, and feet, while the trench coat is cut short, ending mid-thigh. The trench coat and cargo shorts are fitted tighter than normal, minimizing movement across Torman's body, but not tight enough to restrict his own movement. The underside of the gloves and soles of the combat boots are both textured to maximize grip. The entire outfit is black.

The bodysuit Torman wears contains patches made from thicker, more protective material in certain places, mainly around Torman's joints, stomach, and throat, providing more protection while avoiding any undue restriction of his movement. The rest of his outfit, on the other hand, is not only made entirely from more protective, heat-resistant material but also contains strips of lightweight metal plating made from a shape-memory alloy. These strips also focus on protecting vulnerable points on Torman's body but can be found throughout his entire outfit, minus the bodysuit. They do limit his movement somewhat, but not nearly as much as regular armor. They can also be superheated, in a controlled setting, to reform.

Torman's casual attire largely mirrors his Huntsman attire, though it lacks metal plating and his bodysuit, the latter of which replaced by a shirt of some kind. His casual wear also tends to include more colors than just black. He's found that he likes darker greens and blues. His clothes are also always well-rated for durability, as is his preference, though not outright rated for combat like his Huntsman attire.
Personality Description:
Despite what his face may suggest, Torman is not much of an angry person. He's actually quite calm and tends to be of somewhat low energy, though he's still just as capable of getting excited about something as the next person. He also largely lacks a competitive drive, not seeing any reason to prove himself better than his peers, and doesn't get into conflicts easily, actually being fairly good at avoiding them. He does enjoy fighting, however, just only when it's in the field or in the ring.

Yes, Torman is a battle enthusiast and will readily admit to it. It's always been his dream to fight monsters, and he pushes himself further toward that goal every day. He views fighting with an engineer's mindset, something passed on from his father, only feeling satisfied when he's done something in the most efficient way he can, often leading him to be harshly critical of his own shortcomings. He's also very interested in weaponry, especially that of a complex nature, and explosives.

Torman is fairly skilled with people, or at least maneuvering around them, another thing his father taught him. He doesn't much like dealing with people, at least not on the regular, and is somewhat introverted by nature. He excels at acting in a nonconfrontational manner, capable of defusing most everyday situations without much incident. However, he's still more than capable of standing his ground when upset. Despite his skill with people, Torman isn't a natural leader and despises being part in charge of anyone. He much prefers solving problems on his own.
Backstory Highlights:
Torman has led a fairly standard life, perhaps even a boring one compared to the stories of other Huntsmen-in-training. His father, Draven Elba, is an accomplished civil engineer working for the city of Vale. His father tried to get Torman interested in his work at a young age to no avail, as he never had the patience to follow in his father's footsteps. He had always been enthralled by tales of Huntsmen, of heroes who fought monsters and won. He wanted nothing more than to forge his own path to that glory, to be a hero whom no monster could stand before and live.

At the earliest appropriate age, Torman enrolled in a combat school. Though his family was of comfortable wealth, they didn't have the funds to burn on specialized tutors, and also saw no need to have him become an apprentice to a Huntsman instead of receiving a proper education. During this period of his life, Torman largely kept to himself, more interested in chasing his dream than making friends and having always been somewhat of an isolationist. It was here that he picked up an interest in explosives and started developing his skills in dust engineering.

Torman only became more determined to chase his dream as time went by, striving to be the best he could possibly be and treating combat as something to master, trying ever harder to make every move he took more efficient. He constantly chased perfection, which, in the end, ended up further isolating him from any of his peers that didn't share his drive and couldn't withstand his intensity. Without peers he could really connect with, his sense of competitive spirit faded. He took a year off after graduation to practice his skills before enrolling in Beacon, where he remains.
Occupation:
Student
Education:
Torman has received a standard combat school education as well as tutoring from his father in dust and engineering. He expanded upon this in his own personal time, becoming skilled in dust usage, weaponized or otherwise, and basic engineering, specializing in explosives and dust-based powered mechanics.
Semblance Name:
Dampen
Semblance Description:
When activated, Dampen lessens any transfer of energy to Torman himself. Energy, in this context, refers to any force acting on Torman in a physical manner, including forces such as kinetic energy, heat, electricity, light, gravity, and magnetism. Dampen will make transfers of these energies less effective, causing some energy to be lost, effectively eliminated by the semblance, and more to be needed for the same effect. For example, a blade striking Torman would find that, upon impact, it has lost some or even all of the force behind it, potentially stopping it in its tracks.

Dampen functions by lessening the effectiveness of energy transfers, not affecting any source of energy directly. It will not make a flame less hot, only less likely to burn Torman as a percentage of its energy is lost in the transfer of heat from it to him. Dampen will not lessen any energy transfer to below normal levels, though this is only relevant to forces that Torman needs to function optimally, such as light, sound, friction, and gravity. In these cases, it is only energy above normal levels that will be lessened, such as harmful amounts of light and sound or sources of gravity that exert beyond 1g of force. Transfers of energy that are not required for Torman to function will be lessened at any amount, such as magnetism.

It is to be noted that should a transfer of energy be both generated by Torman and also affecting him, such as in the unlikely case of him hitting himself or biting his own tongue, the transfer of energy will still be lessened normally. Torman can also extend his semblance's effects to a weapon by channeling his aura into it. The same rules that apply to him also apply to the weapon, Dampen lessening transfers of energy to it but not to levels below what is required for the weapon to function.

Dampen will lessen the effects of semblances that target Torman's body directly should those semblances, for example, have any effect such as generating energy or impeding his movement, as those effects transfer energy to him and are a force acting on him respectively, which are both within Dampen's lessening effect.

Torman can freely alter to what extent his semblance lessens transfers of energy, ranging anywhere from minor reduction to complete nullification. It is to be noted that Dampen works not in flat amounts but in percentages, as it is not reducing the source of energy itself but the efficiency at which that energy transfers to anything else. He can keep his semblance active for long periods of time, as it does not take much aura to simply maintain, but he experiences a proportional drain with every transfer of energy that he lessens, which can add up quickly should he be using his semblance at higher powers. That being said, he is capable of using it at a lower power fairly consistently throughout a fight, should he not take too many large hits.

Dampen creates a visual effect when activated, causing a faint blue haze to cling to Torman's form. This haze intensifies in proportion to how much power Torman uses his semblance at, becoming thick enough at full power to slightly blur his form.
Weapon Name:
Hum
Weapon Description:
If one were to compare Hum to a more standard weapon, it would likely be closest in design to a sort of greataxe. However, where an axehead would normally reside is instead a pair of counter-rotating circular sawblades pressed together. The haft of the weapon is seven feet long, splitting into two half-hafts for the last ten inches, before which is a small circular guard and between which the sawblades are attached. The sawblades are eighteen inches in diameter and designed to have exceptionally low friction, allowing them to spin in opposite directions even when pressed together as they are. The thin profile of the blades combined with their counter-rotation grants Hum astounding cutting ability as well as mitigating its tendency to glance off of harder targets while its blades are spinning.

The lower six feet of Hum's haft can be linearly compressed in increments of two feet down to a third of its length. The sawblades can be similarly compressed in increments of six inches down to a third of their diameter, the section of split haft that holds them changing its length to ensure that there's always precisely one inch of space between the blades and the unsplit haft. The edge of the sawblades can also retract, rendering them blunt. Hum's sawblades are powered by a six-inch rectangular dust battery slotted into its haft a few inches below its guard. Hum's haft also contains several pressure triggers throughout its length that respond to specific grips and pressures, controlling the weapon's every function.

Beyond simply powering his weapon, Torman can pull on Hum's dust battery to infuse its attacks. This is amplified when the blades are spinning and can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the type of dust within the weapon. Hum can accept dust batteries of any composition so long as they can still be used to power its blades, largely restricting it to dust types with high energy or kinetic properties.

Torman is an explosives enthusiast and regularly creates his own grenades, as well as other explosive devices should he need them. Knowledgeable about dust, he can create a variety of compositions to counter something he expects to face, as well as employ a variety of delivery methods. Going even further, he carries various pieces of equipment and dust on him that he can use to create simple explosives on the fly. He can even alter his batteries into makeshift bombs given some time.
Other Gear:
Torman is an ammo hoarder, keeping a large number of spare batteries with a variety of dust compositions, though he most often uses air dust. He also keeps spare sawblades, stored fully compressed in a special container he keeps on his waist. He normally keeps two spare sets, one straight-edged with small gaps, matching what he normally keeps in Hum, and one with prominent teeth.

Torman always seems to have pockets. His Huntsman attire has many of them throughout the outfit, as well as various other straps and pouches, and even his casual clothes have more than normal. This provides him plenty of room for batteries, explosives, and the various pieces of gear he uses to make the latter.
Fighting Style:
Torman tends to fight aggressively, but in a more strategic manner than simply rushing an opponent and attempting to overwhelm them with sheer power. He prefers to use aggression to control an opponent, limiting their movement and baiting them into positions that are easier for him to strike with greater force, aiming to end fights quickly and with large amounts of precisely applied violence.

Torman's method of fighting with his weapon is a high-impact one, keeping a lower stance for greater stability and leverage while using his weapon's reach to harass an opponent. When moving through a battle he tends to keep to short bursts of speed to conserve energy while repositioning, otherwise using a slower approach in order to retain the stability of his stance and ability to attack while moving.

While Hum is a largely melee-centric weapon, its dust capabilities give Torman an effective ranged option as well. Using different batteries will grant Hum different elemental capabilities matching their composition, allowing him a great deal of versatility in his elemental attacks, though he most commonly uses air dust.

Even without his weapon, Torman is skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Though not particularly astounding at it, he's more than capable of crippling an opponent if they underestimate him and leave an opening for him to exploit. He's also an avid user of explosives, ones that he's made himself, and is usually armed with multiple of several different kinds, most often carrying an assortment of grenades. Should he know of an encounter beforehand, he'll bring explosives tailored to aid him the most in that situation, especially when given time to make them from scratch.
Strengths:
Torman is quite good at fighting. He's also a bit of a perfectionist, constantly pushing himself to become better and better. He's capable at both melee and long-range, though focuses more on the former, and his arsenal of explosives is quite good at filling in any gaps he may have. He knows his way around dust quite well and is an adept weapon and explosives engineer. He's also good at acting in a nonconfrontational manner and diffusing tense situations, keeping no enemies.
Weaknesses:
Despite keeping no enemies, Torman also doesn't keep any friends. His people skills are limited to avoidance and resolving conflicts, after which point he disengages and goes somewhere else. This renders his skill with people more of a particularly well-developed coping mechanism, as he's become skilled at resolving conflicts simply for the purpose of avoiding them. He largely keeps to himself and has a habit of approaching every situation with the intent of doing everything without help.

Fun Facts:
Torman's weapon is named after the faint humming sound it makes when spinning, though this sound is usually only ever audible when one is quite close to the blades. Torman is also somewhat sensitive about Hum being compared to a pizza cutter, having only noticed the similarity after he had already completed the weapon.

None of Torman's equipment is magnetic. His father once warned him about the dangers of operating strong magnets at construction sites and, considering the existence of magnetic dust, Torman decided to steer clear of any such materials. Both his weapon and the metal strips within his Huntsman attire are titanium alloys. Whenever his explosives contain metal parts, which is rare, he uses copper.

Torman has several strange eating habits involving his tongue, such as using it to stab food to bring to his mouth or using it to stab fruit and drain them of fluid. These habits occur naturally and, despite his ability to suppress them with effort, he prefers to eat alone, finding it more comfortable to eat without worrying.

Although Torman does not have increased sight or hearing as some faunus do, he does have a slightly amplified sense of smell and taste. This has lead him to dislike bitter things, including some vegetables, as well as other overpowering flavors. There is an exception, however, for sugar, and he has quite the sweet tooth.

Torman's father is a human. His mother is a butterfly faunus with antennae.
