Physical Description:
Xiangya is a petite girl, shorter and slimmer than most other girls her age, with an Asian, specifically Chinese, complexion. Her irises glisten like the shining, shimmering gold that is typically associated with the mythical dragons that she’s based off of, and her back length hair is white in coloration, usually rather messy and untamed as she usually can’t be bothered to clean it. She’s very clearly Chinese, though it’d be Mistralese in universe. She has a light blush, though it’s more difficult to notice since she’s less pale. Her chin isn’t quite sharp nor round, more like an in between of the two. Her faunus trait is a white horse tail.
Outfit Description:
Xiangya’s combat outfit consists of a white qipao shirt adorned with golden designs. The dress has slits on the side to allow for easy movement of the wearer, reaching up to her waist. Don’t worry, she doesn’t show leg, as she also wears formfitting white pants with traditional Chinese dragon designs in golden silk that reach down to just above her calves. She also wears white kung fu shoes, with no socks because she’s not a psychopath.

The image shows her uniform when working as a waitress or a chef for her family eatery. It consists of a simple, long sleeved pure black polo shirt that is rolled up to her elbows. This uniform also comes with a red skirt, as well as white cargo socks and a pair of white and black track shoes. She wears an apron around her waist.
Personality Description:
Similarly to the draconic steed that she alludes to, she’s not a very active person. Though she can act competently and effectively when times get tough, the best phrase to describe her would be lazy, but brilliant. She’s very intelligent, gifted even, but is slothful in most of her schoolwork, with a few classes standing as glaring exceptions. Her work is high quality, sure, but she’s more of a rush at the last minute to finish the task kind of gal. In spite of her flawed work ethic, she’s not a bad person to be around, though she doesn't talk much unless addressed first, inspired by how the dragon horse almost never talked in the Journey to the West, even though it was very much capable of it.

She’s not very passionate about most subjects, and can come off as disinterested with the current situation at times. Despite that, she does try to humour people she likes, even if the interest that they’re explaining to her is not one that she shares. She spends most of her time slacking off of work. Her humour is rather dry and sarcastic, and she rarely takes things seriously. She does know when to drop the casual attitude, however, and although she can come off as tactless at times, she’s not entirely socially tone deaf.

While she has her flaws, she’s actually quite a nice person. She’s friendly enough, albeit in a relaxed way, and likes spending time with her friends, even if she usually wouldn’t admit it. Although she may act lazy, she does truly want to become a great huntress, and can put forward her one hundred percent effort when it’s needed. She’s also able to recognise and admit when she’s in the wrong, and will apologise for it. She’s good at heart, and doesn’t have an icy exterior to break through, just a lazy one that can make her seem antisocial or disinterested at times.

That said, Xiangya generally refrains from using her Dragon construct, viewing it as a sort of last resort for emergencies. It’s never bad to have an Ace up your sleeve for dire straits, after all, and hers just so happens to be a goddamn dragon. She pretends that her real semblance is her horse, and that her dragon symbol is just a way of honouring her family’s traditional beliefs of Mistralese folklore. Ok, the whole ace up her sleeve thing is just a way for her to justify not using the dragon to herself. The real reason? She’s a massive fucking dork under her cool lazy friend persona, and keeps the final card hidden up her sleeve for the sake of the rule of cool, finding the best moment to reveal it.
Backstory Highlights:
The Ao Clan is descended from a legendary huntsman by the name of Ao Run, a man known by his admirers as the Dragon King of the West Ocean, as well as possessing a rare case of hereditary semblances, all of them being able to summon a construct of a dragon and one other animal. Such a clan had the potential to be a world famous family of huntsmen, so you might be surprised to learn that they’re… not. No, the Ao bloodline is famous for running the top quality, low priced restaurant Ao Chi, with Ao Run’s legacy of heroes being left behind.

No child of Ao has become a slayer of Grimm for centuries now, as most are trained to take over the family business when they grow up, or at least work in it. Despite the fact that the family has a hereditary semblance, so few have unlocked it in the centuries since their legendary ancestor perished that it’s not common knowledge outside the family. Ao Chi is an eatery famous for making some of the best Mistralese food in all of Remnant, as is the dynasty that runs it, rather than for monster slaying.

Even though she was never slated to be heiress, she learned to cook alongside the training from a professional huntress that her parents hired, a heroine by the name of Guanyin. The woman would personally train her protege in the arts of swordsmanship, all while her siblings and parents trained her within the culinary arts, so that she would still be able to help the restaurant if the huntress life didn’t work out for her. With a goal in mind, she lost the freedom that she’d had as a young child, her timetable becoming strict and rigid. This inflexible lifestyle whittled away at her hardworking attitude, and by the time she applied for Sanctum, she had become lazy, yet skilled.

Ao Xiang Ya was born as the third child of the current generation of heirs of the Ao clan, and is hence third in line to receive ownership of the business. Her parents concluded that, with the passionate attitude of her eldest sister and the fact that she was, well, third, that she would never be the next owner, meaning that she was allowed to have free reign as a child, without any pressure to subsume ownership of Ao Chi. This also opened up the opportunity to her of choosing any career she wanted when she grew up, which is how she became the first member of her family in so long to decide to become a huntress.

In her youth, Xiang Ya learned about her famous ancestor from the stories that her mother would tell her to lull the child to sleep. The stories of a hero slaying beasts of pure evil struck a chord within her young soul, especially one that shared her name, causing her to aspire to be just like her late great-great-lots of greats-grandfather, lighting the spark in her heart that would one day light ablaze into the passion of becoming a huntress. Her parents, strict and no-nonsense as they were, held no expectations for her to take over the restaurant, and hence approved of this ambition.

Sanctum was a breeze for her with her training and natural intelligence, but it grew gradually harder as everyone else caught up to her level due to her lack of effort. Though she graduated as one of the best in her year, she failed to reach the number one spot, but her grades were still far more than what was required to be accepted into Beacon. Now, I know what you might ask. Why Beacon? Why not Atlas, or Shade, or Haven? Going down the list, Atlas was an automatic no. With the kingdom’s infamous discrimination against the faunus and their militaristic attitude, it was far from her cup of tea. Shade was also a no in hre book, as the environment and hardened nature of Vacuo wasn’t something she liked to think about experiencing. Finally, Haven might seem like the most likely choice. After all, it’s in Mistral, where she lived, right? Unfortunately for Mistral’s Combat Academy, or perhaps fortunately, she decided that if she wanted to be one of the greats, well, Beacon wasn’t known as the most prestigious of the four academies for nothing. Hence, to Beacon she went!

Semblance Name:
Bai Long Ma
Semblance Description:
Xiangya’s semblance, named Bai Long Ma (白龙马), is an active hereditary semblance of the Ao family. Upon activation, the user manifests their aura externally, their aura shaping into one of two forms. Both of the two forms are aura constructs, formed of white hard light, and are not real creatures, because creating life is an obvious no no. The user can freely manipulate these two forms in a way that would actually work. For example, she can't make the horse form do a flip, but she can make it gallop.

The first of the two forms is that of a Chinese Dragon, a creature which closely resembles the Sea Feilong Grimm, though in reality the Grimm were inspired by the dragons, not the other way round. The dragon, being, well, a dragon, can fly, though it doesn't have any laser mouth beams, unfortunately. It can physically touch objects, with variable durability as explained in weaknesses. It's quite strong, being able to break through stone with ease.

It is capable of changing its size, from being as small to a few centimetres long to massive. At maximum, its head is 2 metres tall, and its body is 1 metre wide, though its body will also be 1 kilometre long. While that may sound like a lot, keep in mind that the dragon will likely be coiled up. For an example of how significant this is, the human small intestine is 22 feet long (7 metres), and still manages to fit comfortably inside of the human body.

The second form is that of a horse, the equine creature able to outrun land vehicles and even some air vehicles. It can hold up to two people on its back as riders, and lacks the combat capabilities of the dragon, though it's still, well, a horse, meaning that you wouldn't want to get trampled without any aura. Against one of the Emperor's huntsmen, however, there's not much this form can do.

She is capable of movement whilst the constructs are active, being able to either command them to carry out a set of actions or personally take control of them from a distance. While doing the latter, she is unable to move, but with the former, she can still move. When taking control of them, she is capable of seeing through their "eyes". With the use of dust, she is capable of augmenting these constructs with the elements

First and foremost, the aura constructs are her aura manifested, meaning that the amount of aura consumed to create them varies based on how much she puts into them, taking from 1 percent to all of her aura. Why would she put more aura into the constructs, then? Well, the durability of the constructs increases with the amount of aura used to make them. An attack that would take 20 percent of her aura normally would instantly destroy a construct of 20 percent or less, but would only damage a construct of 21 percent or more. Basically, her constructs can only take as much damage as the amount of aura that she put into them would be able to defend her from normally.

The second part of this downside is that, well, she's sacrificing the aura in her body to create these constructs. If she makes one with 20 percent of her aura, she only has 80 percent left, and even if she banishes the construct without it being destroyed, she doesn't get the aura back, and will have to wait for its natural regeneration. This means that she has to be careful with the amount she uses, as putting 100 percent of her aura into a construct may get her out of a situation, but will leave her vulnerable even after the battle is over.
Weapon Name:
Lóng Shén
Weapon Description:
One would think that a weapon without any ranged options wouldn’t have any form of mechashifting. One would be very wrong. Lóng and Shén are a pair of twin swords, jian swords to be specific. Jian are a type of Chinese double edged sword, and using them in tandem, she’s able to become a force to be reckoned with at close range, twirling and leaping around attacks with grace, almost as if dancing instead of fighting. They are able to combine into a single sword, the blade is elongating into a zhanmadao blade, a type of cavalry sword meant for fighting on a mount, which is useful with her semblance.

Crafted with a blade made of Dust-reinforced jade, made to be much more difficult to damage or crack than normal jade and sharpened to a wicked point by years of use and upkeep. The handles are made with Chinese rosewood and wrapped in black dyed leather, the hilt plated with reinforced gold. In both forms, the blade(s) are covered in breathtaking carvings of traditional Mistralese dragons, which resemble Sea Feilongs, but less Grimm. The body of the dragon is seemingly curled up around the blades of the jian, and extended fully in all of its divine glory in the weapon’s zhanmadao form. Such was an artistic choice by its crafter, it’s an exquisitely designed weapon indeed. Perhaps it may not have much in the way of ranged attacks, but it’s good enough for her purposes.
Other Gear:
None
Fighting Style:
Her style in question is a graceful form of battle, almost like sword dancing, save for the fact that it’s meant for actual combat, and she’s not an easy target to hit either, as an agile warrior able to move and react quickly to attacks
Strengths:
She’s fast, with dexterous and rapid strikes, as well as having a large aura pool to back her up. She’s very skilled with her blade, having trained for a long time in her style of battle.. Maybe she might not be able to dish out as much damage in a single blow, but does it truly matter if she can land three of the weaker blows in the span of time it takes for a slower opponent to land one? Well, yes, but she doesn’t seem to think so.
Weaknesses:
Her normal attacks don’t hit as hard as the average huntress-in-training her age, though it’s still leagues above what a civilian is capable of. Furthermore, her weapon lacks a range form, and even if it did, she wouldn’t know how to use it, since she has never trained to use a gun or bow, though she technically can just throw her swords, but tossing your weapon away generally is a bad strategy for a fight unless you’re using a boomerang or something. Furthermore, due to the nature of her semblance, her aura is used up very quickly when using the power of her soul, hence her low defense stat despite her massive aura pool.
Likes:
Xiangya genuinely enjoys cooking, and is really good at it to boot. It’s not the first talent that springs to mind when one thinks of a huntress in training, but it’s one that she has and enjoys thoroughly. She traditionally makes Mistralese dishes, though she can also make the more western dishes of Vale and Atlas. She likes those who earn their worth, one of the reasons that she rarely uses her family’s money, instead taking a part time job in order to fund her own expenses. As it stands, her only current use of her family’s lien is to pay her tuition for school, because as special as it is, Beacon is still a school and isn’t free, and working as a part time chef and waitress doesn’t exactly pay as much as it could, even if her uncle is rather generous with her salary. She wants to be a person known for her own achievements, rather than those of the ones who preceded her, and hence likes others of a similar mindset. Of course, this isn’t a get out of jail free card for being an asshole, but it’s still a way to lessen her ire should one earn it.
Dislikes:
She despises those who think of themselves as better than they actually are. If a person is weak, but knows it and is humble about it? Sure, that’s fine. If someone’s cocky or overconfident but has the skill to back it up? Go right ahead, no objections here. If you’re weak and brag about your strength, or rich from a family fortune and see fit to brag about it, on the other hand? You’re on the shitlist. She also dislikes those who are overly pushy or insistent on something, or people who act like fourteen year old edgelords at a school for elite warriors. Finally, she is not a fan of the White Fang, despite being a faunus herself. It’s not like she disagrees with their goal, as she too wants discrimination to end, but sees their methods as wrong and unjust. The failed attempt to destroy Beacon Academy before she joined only served to reinforce this belief. She views the Fang as a group of creepy, holier than thou cultists who need to be arrested and thrown into a cell, and doesn’t try to hide her distaste for the group. Despite that, she respects those who have left the Fang, as she sees it as an act of bravery and coming to one’s senses.
