Physical Description:
Ava stands at 5'2" tall. Her slim build accentuates her modest muscles which, along with her straight body type, gives her a boyish appearance. Wavy, midnight blue hair falls to her mid-back, though this is often tied into a tight braid with two tufts falling beside her cheeks. Her most defining facial features – soft-angled eyebrows and deep sapphire eyes – draw attention away from her petite nose and rounded face.
Outfit Description:
A Queen of Casual, Ava opts for a white tank-top, light blue shirt unbuttoned and a denim jacket with sleeves rolled up to the elbow. An icicle necklace hangs from her neck which, if ever hit by direct sunlight, produces a faint sparkle of colours across the spectrum. Distressed white jeans and a checkered sneaker are her go-to lower-side gettup, although she throws on a light brown boot for cold weather.
Personality Description:
Somewhat arrogant and bold, Ava feels a compulsive need to stick a foot into every situation and speak her mind. She'll stand up for what she believes in and defend her opinions to the grave, right or wrong, which can make her 'a lot to deal with' for most.

The concept of personal space is foreign to Ava; she will not be able to tell if she's coming on too strongly unless it's being practically screamed at her.

In spite of those strong characteristics, she does have a softer side on the occassion she feels burnt out or in need of emotional recourse. To see this side of Ava is a rarity, reserved only for her closest confidants.

Backstory Highlights:
# Early Life #

Ava was born to a Huntsman father, Aiden, who bore a strong dislike for the Atlesian military, and a nurse mother with a kind and gentle heart. When she was little, they lived in an outpost town outside of Mantle that benefitted from the protection of the military whilst remaining mostly unshackled by its politics and aristocracy. Her father was often away on account of Huntsman duties and her mother, Aurora, spent long nights in the hospital, leaving Ava in the capable care of Mama Blue* for much of her childhood.

*Mama Blueblood is Ava's Grandmother, a Vacuoan, plus-size woman with a heart of gold and arms of solid steel.

# Combat School #

Despite her Mother's best wishes, Ava showed aptitude toward becoming a Huntress from an early age and she would migrate to Anima with her parents when she turned old enough to attend combat school. The move was explained to Ava as Sanctum Academy being an overall better fit for her than any school that Mantle could have offered, though she would find out years later that this decision was partially motivated by Aiden landing himself in muddy waters with the military, after a mission-gone-wrong wherein a fellow Huntsman was hospitalized at the hands of a clumsy Atlesian soldier.

She thrived in Sanctum, to the surprise of neither parent. Ava's combat style quickly evolved from being a carbon-copy of her father's, snappy and precise with a sniper-lance, to a heavy-hitting and deliberate approach. A handaxe and buckler was the first setup she made for herself, but she wanted to go bigger. Much bigger. When her axe and shield became too much to bear in either hand, a friend joked that Ava should blend the two together, and she accepted the challenge with glee.

Thus, Prae was born, a two-handed shieldaxe with an extendable handle and hefty dust crystals embedded on either side; Ava's pride and joy to the present day.

Ava's semblance came to light around the same time. After school, her friend became the victim of bullying for their Faunus features. Shoved aside and held down whilst a bully swung for her friend, she felt utterly powerless and small, and screamed as she willed her friend remain unharmed. As the bully's knuckles connected with the Faunus' stomach, a stomach-turning crunch made Ava fear the worst, although the assailant recoiling in pain led immediately to confusion. She realized that a jagged barrier of crystals had formed across the front of the Faunus, blocking the force of the impact and shattering to dust in an instant.

She would never project such a shield onto an ally again until her time in Beacon, but it was enough to stop her friend's harassment in school. And that was good enough for Ava.

When it came to Huntsman Academy applications, Ava deliberated over the options for weeks. Eventually deciding that she wanted to experience the world as her Father before her did, she sent off applications to both Beacon and Shade and settled on the former at her Mother's insistence**.

** - Ava's Mother had heard stories from Mama Blueblood about some of the things that go down in Vacuo, meaning Shade was always going to be a non-starter for the young Huntress.

# Beacon Academy #

Ava flopped into Beacon, literally. After shaky introductions led to a scene outside the Amphitheatre, the bluenette spent most of her early days meeting new people, adjusting to Vale and trying to stay out of trouble. After going from being the top of the food chain in her circle of friends to a nobody among equally talented students, she found it difficult in the beginning and often questioned her decision to move away from home instead of attending Haven Academy.

A mission had opened up in the far reaches of Mountain Glenn, a simple elimination task with one open slot. Two names were already jotted down, unfamiliar of course. On a whim, she pushed her details into the console and thought little more of it. Maybe an excursion would bring her out of her shell?

Despite nearly ending in tragedy, the mission was a success. The friendly giant Jim Lavay became her partner in crime and the first student that she truly bonded with at Beacon. Finally, after weeks of living a recluse’s life, that brimming confidence of hers shone brightly once more.

From then on, things only grew better – grades were beginning to rise, new friendships blossomed, and she even reunited with her former battle buddy for another endeavour into Mountain Glenn. Talks with Jim Lavay and an old friend saw them looking for a 4th student to form a team, and they’d shortly find the perfect to candidate to round off the group. The team’s trial would prove a success as they faced off against an army of Grimm, toppling two of the Forest’s biggest baddies to form Team JAHC.

Ava roamed Beacon for years in the pursuit of bettering herself – dedicating more time to studies, venturing on more missions with her team, and realising what it means to be a true Huntress. Throughout their exploits, Ava grew closer with the other members of her team and developed an undeniable synergy with its leader, learning to play off one another's strengths and cover up each other's weaknesses.

As the last semester drew closer, Ava began to face the reality that she wasn't going to be a student anymore. There'd be nobody to look up to, only the ones standing beside her on the same terrifying yet gratifying journey. It wasn't just her team that needed protecting anymore, it was the people. A town, or a school, or a kingdom; whatever it was, she was going to make damn sure she'd be a guardian to them all.

# Post-Graduation #

One month post the graduation ceremony, Ava found herself returning from Mantle to the city of Vale. The ever-present Mama Blueblood, a commanding figure in her family and Ava's greatest inspiration, had faded peacefully with the entire Blueblood family at her side. If it didn't already feel like a new chapter in her life was beginning, recent events were the first gut-wrenching sentences on the page.

Life continues, as do the Grimm. Ava would mourn but for now, her new mission was at hand; be the best Huntress that she can be.
Occupation:
Junior Huntress
Education:
Ava was initially taught to fight by her Huntsman Father, Aiden, and quickly took on his combat style before attending combat school.

At Sanctum Academy, Ava learned the arts of weapon making and crystal infusion. She developed an infatuation with a defensive fighting style and started using axes and shields before fusing the two together, creating the shieldaxe.

As a recent Beacon graduate, she has all the makings a Huntress with a fair amount of experience under her belt already.
Semblance Name:
Crystallize
Semblance Description:
Ava focuses aura around any part of her body to form crystalline barriers, which may be created and disintegrated at will. These barriers take on a neat, translucent appearance when summoned, growing larger the longer Ava concentrates. She can repair any cracks and chips that form on them as long as her aura holds up, but a barrier too greatly damaged can’t be fixed. A barrier can be thrown and used offensively, but can’t be modified, controlled, or repaired unless it’s within her reach.

Under emotional stress, Ava’s barriers become more resistant to damage and are quicker to manifest, but turn chaotic in shape and have an unpredictable lifespan (due to her inability to replenish them like she can with clean, structured barriers). Any time an unstable barrier interacts with Dust – depending on the element – it gains the properties of that element. For example:

– Gravity dust causes a blocked attack to rebound with great force.
– Ice dust imbues the barrier with a layer of frost, creating a misty blast when it shatters.
– Fire dust heats the surface of a barrier to scorching temperatures.

Throughout her time at Beacon, Ava has become more proficient in the use of her semblance. Now that she’s able to cast a barrier onto an ally, albeit losing the power to maintain it, she trains tirelessly to test the limits of her ability and unlock its true potential.
Weapon Name:
Prae
Weapon Image:

Weapon Description:
Prae[sidium] is a large shield shaped like the head of a double-sided battleaxe with a segmented handle that can pop out via an opening on the bottom, allowing for it to be swung as a two-handed weapon. The edges of the shield are sharpened to a point, making for a devastating slash attack should a foe get caught in its path.

Two large conduit crystals sit engraved on the shield's surface, granting the weapon a set of unique abilities an otherwise plain sheet of metal wouldn’t possess. Applying dust to the crystals cause them to react to the element respectively - fire dust sets them on fire, ice dust releases a blast of freezing air, gravity dust releases kinetic blasts when a foe strikes its surface. The crystals must be maintained regularly in order to keep up their strength; repeated applications of dust will dull the elemental effects. Not being made of money, Ava is modest in how she uses this.

Whilst inactive, Prae sits on her back via a magnetic back brace she wears beneath her clothes.
Fighting Style:
Ava can take a lot of hits without sustaining too much damage. This gives her an advantage over squishier targets in combat, as she is able to maintain herself whilst whittling down a foe’s health slowly. That said, her offensive abilities can leave something to be desired at times. She can deal with a single target or two with slow and heavy hitting attacks, but larger groups of Grimm will normally see her taking a defensive role while her teammates dish out the real damage.

Duelling against fellow classmates leaves Ava at a disadvantage most of the time. Her slower fighting style leaves her open to more opportunities of attack, and although this is less of a problem against the Grimm, faster classmates can easily capitalize on it. Any attacks from Ava that do land will leave a hefty mark, though it’s dependent on if she can predict the opponent’s movement.
Strengths:
Defensively, Ava excels. Grimm will hardly land a scratch on her, though this comes with the burden of depending on others to deal the damage. She’s fast to trust a friend both in and out of combat, especially her teammates.

Happy to be the centre of attention, she’s as loud as they come; social situations are a cinch.
Weaknesses:
Ava’s combat style has some very obvious flaws; she’s near useless when it comes to fighting ranged and fast-moving adversaries. She also has a great fear of being out in the dark, due the limited amount of vision it offers.

Although this doesn’t apply so much in combat, she can’t stand looking after animals and kids. She doesn’t know how to keep them entertained.
Likes:
+ Heading out on dangerous missions with Team JAHC.
+ Eating, especially food from different cultures.
+ Socialising with friends/teammates.
+ Fuelling her ego.
+ Sleeping. Alot.
Dislikes:
– Discrimination, yo.
– Terrorism and fascism.
– Slithery animals.
– Repetitive tasks and downtime.
– She’s not a great fan of soup?
Fun Facts:
She can bend her thumb backwards, all the way. It's gross.
Recent Events:
Having recently graduated from Beacon Academy, Ava's taken a brief break from Huntress duties to soak in the reality of finishing school. Life came at her fast and all that she's ever done is run into it face first.

Presently, she's returning to Vale from a family reunion after mourning the loss of Mama Blue, and looking to start her Huntressing duties with something easy.
